How Omnissa Ensures Reliable Service Amidst Industry Challenges
A security outage identified Thursday, July 18th caused widespread disruptions in business operations, as customers running Microsoft Windows desktops were affected across multiple industries. The outage resulted in many of the Windows hosts experiencing the infamous “Blue Screen of Death” or BSOD. For further information regarding the outage, refer to the official blog, found here.
While a recovery procedure was quickly documented, one of the most prominent obstacles faced by many customers, was their reliance on Microsoft's API for BitLocker management, which directly affected the speed of recovery. Recovery of Windows machines that were encrypted using BitLocker required an additional step of going past the encryption “lock” using a BitLocker recovery key.
Our Commitment to Reliability
At Omnissa, we are dedicated to providing our customers with the highest level of support possible. When faced with this outage, we were quick to connect with our customers and provide them with guidance for recovery.
Omnissa offers its own, unique solution for BitLocker encryption management at no additional cost to customers. Those impacted were able to get up and running quickly by leveraging a key differentiator in our product - Self-Service Portal within Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub.
Workspace ONE UEM allows administrators to customize self-service options to help end users perform basic device management tasks, investigate issues, and fix problems. This means end users do not need to log tickets and spend extra time waiting for support to solve their problems.
In the context of the outage, end users could navigate directly to the Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub tab and retrieve a unique encryption recovery key, which they could then use to regain access to their Windows device. The Self-Service Portal uniquely escrows the encryption keys for both Windows and Mac machines, and across the admin console as well as the end-user’s self-service portal. The ease of recovering the key, in contrast to other vendors approach of extensive scripting, made a night and day difference in the speed at which the businesses could restore their operations.
